Promises, made all the time.
Most forgotten, some remembered.
Hard to keep, easy to break.
Funny how the hardest to keep,
Are the ones you make to yourself.
What must one do to remember,
To keep true to yourself,
To do what you promise to do.
How do you keep a promise to him, her, who?
Forget what I say
Can't even stay true to myself.
Will there ever be a day,
When I can make a promise, and stay true?
Perhaps I’ll learn from the past
Learn where I went wrong.
Fix the mistakes of early. The ones that last.
Get myself to the place I should have been.
Why can't I just do what I say?
Why is it so hard?
Do I set my goals to high?
Or maybe, just maybe, it is only I.
I hate false promises and most of those broken promises come from myself. I swear to myself I will do something or that I won't do something and I tend to veer towards the wrong decision.
