The emptiness that chained me down
and held me firm in place,
that made me second guess myself
and everything I chased,
that made me fear that every smile
hid motives just for pain,
and made me not take chances
lest there not be chance for gain.

The emptiness that held me back
and filled me with self-doubt,
that changed the way I looked at things
that there was no way out,
that helped to make me lose my way
and failed to reassure,
that broke me down day after day
when things weren't what I thought they were.

The emptiness that held me back
and took my life away,
no longer feels like emptiness
in any kind of way,
and all the things I couldn't do
are now only ahead,
the sky's the limit finally
the emptiness is dead.
