I have a blue baseball cap
that doesn't belong to me
a replacement for the necklace
he wouldn't give.
It's old and ratty
unclean and covered in dust
as it hangs on the post
of my bed painted green.
The button on top is frayed
no longer navy but ocean blue
worn so that it shines white
in certain light
a meeting point for the lines
running up six sides.
The inside is stained brown
from the sweat
made from pressure endured
in the games he played as a youth.
Deep inside in bright orange pen
are words inscribed.
"Eric's hat" they say
"If found, please call Eric's mom" they demand
though the hat isn't Eric's
and never was
and is mine now
that ahd nothign to do with a pink lampshade it was old an old smelly blue baseball cap
