Be Yourself

...

You are not your family

You are not your church,

You are not your clothes,

You are not your body,

You are not your school,

You are not your friends,

You are not even a poem,

As long as you breathe air,

You are your mind body and spirit,

Which should be your only home,

To be taken with you,

Wherever you may roam.

Stand for yourself,

You are one in a million,

Who can stand alone.

Others have done it,

With even heavier loads,

The trials of life

Lie on some treacherous roads.

Life may ask you for everything

I've mentioned above,

And when you can give all that up,

With no question to ask,

You will know you've found love.

nightlight

nightlight i like how show the complexities of being human. you make the reader think about what makes them them and that work, church, their friends, their family isn't what makes them them. it's how they feel, interact, engage, how they feel, how their senses flow, and how they respond to life that makes them them. it does make you question what makes you tick and this thought provoking poem has an air of philosophy. i love it.

Right!! So insightful,

Right!! So insightful, Poetic. I was thinking when writing about having meditated on the big question even monks and yogis have yet to answer...it is..."who am I?" We are human beings in man's world...but to go deeper..to go past the ego, past the mind...who are we? A question I like to think about that can often bring me a great sense of inner peace for some reason.

Lovely thoughts!

I find we are everything we choose and everything is A choice. Even not choosing is a choice. Thankfully every choice can change now or in future unfortunately not the past. So yes be the person you choose to be or WOULD choose tobe one  choice at a time and it can show you how truly amazingly you you can be! ;) hugss I enjoyed this poem! Strength is a valued gift indeed!

Don't let any one shake your dream stars from your eyes, lest your soul Come away with them! -SS
