The Greats had their day
Charlie, Bird and Satchmo
And also their stay
In the Land of the Blues
Now a people gone
From a vibrant cool city
Busted by an uncorked Katrina
From the mighty Mississippi
To alluring Alabama
Katrina came and left
Still asmoking and aburning
And help so inept
Came to a city no more
To close the barn door
After the storm left
Oh America! Land of the free
But a land of silent conspiracy
Heedless of world opinion
And the world looks on
Now US Shows spew the scorn
But they came before in Petra
Pompeii and Ubar in Saudi Arabia
Wiping out cities with their rage
Like Corinth, Angkor Wat and Carthage
And now Lusty New Orleans
Burning Mississippi
And awesome Alabama
Now the plight of the poor folks
Fuelling talk shows with sour jokes
But New Orleans will for sure
Remember when Katrina came a calling
And Uncle Sam didn’t do his bidding
But blamed it all on Mother Nature
