soft grey the morning light upon my lids
warm jersey sheets embrace my limbs
holding in the memories of the night
already fading in the dim
abject my heart as their hands fade
back to cities where they've stayed
the joy of sunlight yet to come
old homes more present than this one
but as the light turns yellow pink
expectation's brightness and i blink
the window pain reflection fades
and with it goes my loved ones' shades
the lives of now come streaming in
bathing mind and body through
in comes the radiant sun beams
dissipating moon's deep blue
