*The Wedding Day

"Mama? What's happening?"

the girl asks

there is a feast being prepared

but she doesn't know why

"Hush Little One it's time to get ready"

"Mama? Is this dress for me?"

the white silk is luxurious

against her smooth pale skin

"Mama? Why are the Church bells ringing?"

"Hush Little One, it's time to go"

all the townsfolk are going to the church

dressed in their Sunday best

"Papa! What's happening?"

"Hush Little One, I found you a husband.

You'll go with him today."

everyone takes their seats as the music begins

"Papa? Who is he?"

"Hush Little One, it's time to go"

He lowers her veil

and they walk slowly down the aisle

"Papa!"

"Hush Little One, Let's go home"

her childhood love says

as he lifts her veil

"My love!"

Wow, not the way i'd expect this one to end at all, I must say I appreciate the ending with the childhood Love. Proves to me that some good can still come from such a marriage.

I think a lot of good can come from an arranged marriage, more so than a "love marriage" simply because the culture demands that both people stay together, and if they are both decent people, they will work together to make the marriage work and last, and they will love each other, and it will be a successful marriage. Love isn't an emotion of the heart, it's a choice to stay faithful, to be honest, to take care of another.
