The mountain was angel's rest
One October day, just as the trees began to turn
The colors that surrounded me, took my breathe away
Such beauty I have never felt
I gazed in awe of its size, it's mystery
I felt so little in this world, yet I was home
Mike lead the way, leading me straight into heaven
Taking such pleasure in showing us all there was to see
A finer gentleman I have never met!
He has a bigger heart then most possess
He knew all the the trails
Sharing tales of walking them as a young child
Trees of red and orange, leaves blanketing the ground
Rustling through them we made our way up .....higher and higher
Chipmunks scampering
The water trickling over the rocks
Sherrie making sure none were lost, that all stayed together
So nurturing, so strong,
Her beauty flowed from within .......I knew I had priceless friend
A small dam and a pool of cold water
Trees already fallen, became our seats in this paradise
We rested, weary from the climb up
Together we grew to know each other chatting, giggling, sharing
Cali insisting she was to old to go on.......I smiled till it hurt
She warms my heart on the coldest days
When I feel dead a simply hello from her and I am alive
The mountain called us higher , with promises of more beauty
So untouched by the ugliness of the world
Paul went to waters edge
Almost stumbling in, determined to get a drink
He ran back passing me the container urging me to taste
Startled by its pureness....and Paul's too..... I still see his smile
Laughter, complaining, sharing, climbing higher
I seen Amanda, looking at a caterpillar not quite a lady, yet
However she is so wise, a quiet girl, a tiger in disguise
A heart as huge as this mountain I climb
Ryan and Rick dressed in their manly fatigues
Paint ball guns ready, in hand
Their eyes full of life, something I hadn't seen in sometime
Making it to the top their only goal
Jakey blond hair, and a smile that just doesn't stop
A babe magnet you might say.....a hopeless flirt
His eyes just like his fathers....... shine so full of life
This was much more then a mere hike
Elisha and Kimm huffing and puffing
Determined they would make the top
Their beauty so rare.....paling even the flowers
I took a long deep breathe, absorbing it all
I now know why they say the best things in life are free
Surrounded by beauty as far as my eyes could see
Sharing all this with those I have love
Satisfying all of my senses and warming my soul
This truly was where angels must come to rest
Eating sandwiches, laughter filling the air
The heavens reached out and touched me
Leaving me forever changed
Surrounded by angels of salvation
On this mountain so glorious
Wrapping my bleeding heart in band-aids of love
I hear the mountain it calls out to me.....every day!

my favorites to read ;*)

Dear Jo-anne Yes - in reading this poem I was there as well. I laughed and I drank the cool water, smelling the talented painting you painted here in words. I love this one! Regards Donkerman
Nice poem. Perhaps you should develop this into a short story, if you would be interested in that. It shouldn't be hard with such a cast of characters. James

How awesome, i felt as if i were back on the mountain with you. You bring every memory back with your words and at the same time adding more feelings than just the pure fun and extreme exhaustion we felt. What can i say it is simply beautiful.
