He followed me, never talked to me and never did he smile,
I could neither hear his footsteps nor could I hear him rustling behind me,
Seemed like he walked on the wind,
I never saw him clear,
Saw only his faint picture,
His height was same as mine,
His looks resembled mine,
He was my imitation,
He walked the same path I walked on,
He stopped when I stopped,
He kept pace with me,
After many hours of my journey,
I stopped, wanting to know about this man whom I did not know,
But having fear of ignominy,
I kept going,
I became curious about him,
I tried to watch him,
He disappeared in utter dark,
And appeared again with a delightful look in the sober light,
He was a solemn man,
I had no until; I got acquainted with him,
He did me no harm and gave me no trouble,
But this mysterious man only followed and imitated me,
I tried to converse with him,
But he would only stare at me,
Neither did he whisper nor did he mumble,
He slept next to me,
He woke up when I did,
He sat where I did,
He went where I went,
He faced where I went,
He faced the same fate as mine,
And we stood together in difficulties,
He did things which I did but with panache,
I think, he thought what I thought,
I do not know what should I call him,
Is he I, part of myself,
I understand now, following, watching, and imitating me were his instincts,
After a long time my journey has ended,
So has his,
I lie in my tomb serenely,
So does he, besides me,
My life was not a solitary one,
I always had this mysterious companion,
You know now, who is he?
He is my shadow,
But he doesn’t!
I really liked it! It was well written and had a unique feel to it which made me feel less lonely. And the imagery was well produced! It's AWESOME!!!
i love your poem. I like how when you read it you can draw a picture in your head of what is going on in the poem. very wonderful.
This is well written and full of perfect imagery! Very nice!
