You are a tree in budding bloom
In the sun drink long and deep
Heed not the worm amongst your roots
The earth is yours not his to keep
And grow again, another year
Another hard won ring
Be strong outside, rough the bark
Holds soft heartwood within
You have swayed through seasons
Bent through storms
Boughs loaded down to break
In winters long and bitter cold
Took more than you should take
But in spring the light plays on your leaves
It is good to see you grow
And I wait for a chance to taste the fruit
Which holds all that you know
