Promises
Tonight you mentioned a possibility
A light at the end of our tunnel
One month and things may change
No guarantees, but lots of hope
So now I give thought to how things may be
Greater thought to how things have been
Never wanting to repeat other’s mistakes
Never wanting to succumb to those tendencies
A pledge now to how things will be
Promises of how I said we would be
Accepting that no one is perfect
Willing to admit our wrongs and change
Our time will always be our own
Discussions of how things will go
Our word will be our bond
Nothing more to be said
Friends will have their priorities
Regardless of race or gender
Honesty will keep us strong
Love will keep us together
Bad times may surface on occasion
Open communications will light our way
To promise anything else would be unfair
To accept anything else would be unreasonable
I can’t promise to never do something
That would be unrealistic
I do promise to try and work together
I hope I never make you cry in pain
We will work to be happy together
Work to keep our relationship alive
Trying always to see each other
Never forgetting to love one another
We can teach ourselves to realize how things are
Realize how things can be
Show the world not to doubt
Show ourselves the love we’ve nurtured
