That night when Jamie drove me home
from what should've been a fun night,
this is the talk we had all alone
following one of their horrible fights....
~~~
" It's only a little black eye.
No really, it's not a big deal!
Notice this time, I didn't even cry?
The pain I can no longer feel.
~~~
He never means to hurt me so,
deep down, I know he feels bad.
Besides, by now I should know
what not to do to make him mad!
~~~
Dear friend of mine, how you care,
but really, don't waste your time!
Lie to you? I wouldn't dare....
I promise, it's going to be fine.
~~~
I know that you will never see
what a sweet man he is inside.
Sometimes he just gets mad at me,
he's filled with so much pride.
~~~
The other times...the hospital stays?
Well, I've already told you why..."
I get out as we stop at my place
and as she speeds away, I see her cry....
~~~
That night when Jamie drove me home
from what should've been a fun night,
how was I to possibly have known
that my worst fears were so very right?
~~~
" He really loves me and I love him, too!
That's why we're husband and wife! "
He showed Jamie love, in black & blue,
before he finally ended her life.
~Grass is green~ <^>
I can only say that I'm damn glad it's fiction. Other than that, very good poem!
I use to do social service work and have
on many ocassions put my life on the line,
and what I find most disheartening is
that most attempts to help the abuse
results in the abused returning to the
abuser. Black and blue is unfortunatly
a close depiction of love gone bad.
