Pain is a black hole
that sucks you in,
deeper and deeper
until your heart caves in.
It becomes your identity,
your cross to bear,
signs of your brokenness
splashed on your face.
Your downturned expression
a reminder to passersby
of the hurt you have sustained,
the sorrow that exists.
Pain doesn't have to
become your baggage;
it can wreck your life
but only if you let it.
Everyone carries something,
but not all people
allow their pain
to weigh them down.
