1.
The year began
with an attempt
at reconciliation
but only led
to screaming
at regret’s ghost.
Epiphanies lie
in raised voices
and understanding
in tears shed.
Spring pounced
like the enemy
from secret cover
with her lover.
Revelation is
a screeching halt
to everything I know,
exposed to
blinding truths.
2.
Infatuation came
on the crest of a wave,
quickly washed away
by crashing lies.
My life collapsed
on top of me,
the caving in
of countless years of
misunderstandings.
Apathy was the ashes
rising from extinguished
temperaments;
melancholy was
the new season.
It hung like dried mistletoe
above heads held low
in frosted bitterness
hoping to melt
come next year.
