Getting Lucky

Folder:
Tributes to Lovers

I gave you my virginity

at one of the lowest

points of my life.

And I didn't even

know your last name

or how old you are.

You hold it over my head

like somehow you earned it,

like you own me.

You got lucky (in more ways than one):

you were just at the right place

at the right time.

I used you because

I was desperate for intimacy,

but not that kind of intimacy.

I wanted someone to know me,

deeply and personally know me

and sex was close enough.

Writing and posting this poem

Writing and posting this poem surely requires an honesty and strength of character and soul that few of us can actually achieve.  I applaud your accomplishment---not only verbally, but in the candor of your words.  You are---truly---one of PostPoems' finest.
