The rain's falling on this land
The rattle of thunder fills the air
The tears of children and women
In distress fall on deaf ears
The cry of a dying boy-soldier haunts me.
The smell of rape and the stains of blood
A child calls for her mother
And hopefully hope that she'll answer
But the tears and pain of the innocent
Go no further than their hearts.
The rain falls, falls, falls....
Pelting red hail into the paths of humanity
The fields're left fullow and coffers bereft of coin and corn
Where men have resolved to settle scores
And behind they unleach a trail of worms.
A striking description of the
Liberian people's predicament -
with metaphoric symbols of the
rain and the fields that are
left unfarmed...
Revealing, sad, and unequivocal
in its hearty message!
