Maybe now, maybe then
An elephant never forgets a face
It has victimized
I’m on his mind
I’m on his list
I made the cut
Right down the corner of the chase
Confusion of the deepest brew
Subsettles and subsides
You crept upon the tiny child
Crept upon his innocence
And bent it like a TV antenna
Bent it like a rule
Bent him to a crooked man
Held up by a crooked cane
Blistered by a crooked path
Choked up the collar
Turtle rockabies on his back
Forth and back again
Slipping slowly down like anvil rain
I’m suspended out and about the angry storm
That he conjured up
On the tail of the kite
Ben has set me as the bait
To catch a hair of lightning cloud
Conjured underneath the magnifying glass
Oh, help me anyone
Oh, grievances still dragged along
I’m cut short right down through the belly of the shortcut
The chase is on to spread the laughter of my cursed name
Further than I dare to tread
I the turtle
Ready to snap
But never snaps at the chance spoon-fed to me
Farewell is forever as ever shall release forth on
Oh why, oh why
Can’t we say good bye?
And raise our white flags
And cease the war
So this poor old turtle can rest
Weary from the battle
Oh, pity the wear within the wrinkle
Pity the wear within the marrow
Breathing slowly, slowly, slowly…
Underneath the bone cuckoon
Music twinkles brilliantly around the agony
And around the irony
He’s a bird
He’s a plane
He’s a bird of an evil feather
A weed of a bad seed
That blossoms
That collects the flock
And puts them all in narrow line
Mystery down underneath
The frosting that blocks its screams
From surfacing the sea and scoping out with periscope
Oh, submarine’s arrived
To poop the party out like dirt on the bonfire
That kept us warm through many a-winter of a night
Oh, turtle surfaces
And greets the sudden sun mourning
Oh, can’t it all just settle down
Like a snow globe
Calm and cool
So life can be ok for everyone that has to live it
Oh, surrender on your knees
For you stand upon no chance
Of claiming victory
I was honey for the bears
That sniff around
Every sway and every stone unturned
Curious as Goldilocks
Who sniffs the honey-suckled air
And everything will be ok
For life is but a slow decay
And sunrises will sunset asleep again
Oh, sparrows of all sorrows
Where do you carry me?
So blind as bats as mimes blind to time
Never forget, never forget
Farewell is not good bye
Farewell is good as bye can get
We consume as we create
Bloom and yet disintegrate…
Maybe now, maybe then
An elephant never forgets a face
It has victimized
I’m on his mind
I’m on his list
I made the cut
Right down the corner of the chase
