Muawiyah warned his son Yazid

Against mistreating Husayn ibn Ali,

Grandson of Muhammad [P.B.U.H],

Since it would be awfully unholy!

Muawiyah’s warning was: “Be careful O my son,

That you do not meet God with his blood

Lest you be amongst those that will perish,”

Alas! It could not stop the gory flood!

As towards Kufa Husayn did travel

At a nearby place called Karbala,

Yazid I's soldiers interrupted his caravan,

Shimr killed and beheaded Husayn in the Battle of Karbala.

Once the horse lost control and Yazid was killed,

Mukhtar al-Thaqafi wished to take revenge brutally

Upon Husayn and his family's killers,

His troops killed Shimr eventually.

Shimr’s body was torn to pieces by wild dogs,

Husayn’s soul must have found peace!

Goodness triumphs eventually,

Before righteousness, the vice has to cease!
