The Plague Doctor

In a deserted town,

no one to be seen around,

a spectre is said to walk the streets at night,

having caused many to stumble afright.

A dreary figure you would meet,

his face said to resemble a bird's beak,

a black hat atop his head,

and a dark cloak reaching his legs;

doctors to treat the plague,

their appearance very vague.

The Black Death it was called,

many cities were all walled,

and the doctors swarmed in from one side

lots of people about to die;

giving them a mixture to cure the sick,

used by drinking it;

but many doctors got the disease

most died without ease;

but one survived,

death was not his bride,

that is the spectre,

known as the curing collector.
