Sent away

A sealed letter on the nightstand

was never sent.

I began pacing.

The carpet in the room

was much too rough on my feet;

it acted like sandpaper to the delicate

skin on my body.

I longed for you to speak.

And you no longer faced me

as the letter lied carelessly

in plain sight, your shame in words

you felt undressed.

Had I not imposed in the purpose of the letter

had I not been curious at all

perhaps you would've sent that letter

to the lover you thought

I knew nothing of.

And you no longer faced me

and the letter seemed to be the only thing

moving, breathing, feeling in the room

and I, still standing

wishing you would see me

wishing you away.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this when I was 16, but I only found it now. I don't like it, but I am lacking poems so here it is.
