Stubbed my toe on a chair
Sticking out at the dinner table
Bemoaned my luck a little
Really been that kinda day
For all of my suffering, though
I've never spent years
Living in a subway
Let alone a war torn country
For all the tears I've cried
I've never once died
Of starvation
Or lost my whole family
At times I've had it better than I do
Listen, it could be worse
I've had my burden but
With my first world cross
For all you're carrying
I could carry a little more
I could carry a bit of yours
How much would it hurt?..
This heart of mine's been broken
Wish she was still here
In prison with a memory
Yet I still have some room to dream
For all the tears I've cried
I've never been put in a box
For saying just how I felt,
Not torn from every loved one
Our first world problems
Spiral out of control
On the television
And in the twitterverse
We kill ourselves and each other
Over sexual orientation
Or party affiliation
What of all the people trying not to die of starvation
We could put things in perspective
Not to deny our crosses
But go without over-sizing them
For all you're carrying
I could carry a little more
I could carry a bit of yours
How much would it hurt?..
For all you're carrying
I could carry a little more
I could carry a bit of yours
Oh, how much it could help
I'm listening to this guy
Bemoaning his diamond studded cross
Had to fire ten thousand people
Cause the weight was just so much
And for all of my own suffering
I've never spent years
Living in a subway
Let alone a war torn country
At times I've had it better than I do
Listen, it could be worse
I've had my burden but
With my first world cross
For all you're carrying
I could carry a little more
I could carry a bit of yours
How much would it hurt?..
I'll carry you two steps
Someday can you carry me one?
But if you don't carry me at all
Maybe i can carry you three steps
Someday, when you are on your way,
can you carry someone else?
we carry each other
we carry each other
If we're to ever get anywhere
We need to put things in perspective
And show a more understanding
I could carry a bit of yours
I could carry a little more
How much would it hurt?
