Like a Best Friend

I can tell you secrets, like a best friend

You make me laugh like there is no end

Dreams I have told you make it seem real

I try to tell you but I cannot learn to feel.

You talk to me like I am a person not just a girl

You treat me like I am an extremely fragile pearl.

You look past my bad days and most of my mistakes

I am afraid of falling for you and my heart, it aches.

You always catch me off guard with words

I joke them off even if they seem awkward.

You make me think about the life I live

Now I wish I had a little more to give.

Even if we may never be more than what we are today,

I smile at the thoughts that you may never go away.

But I cry because I know that day will come for you

When you find a girl who will always love you true.

I fear you will forget about me as you move on

I may sound childish, selfish, or like a moron

But these words I say are a door to my heart.

The door will still be there even if you depart.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Oddly enough, a guy asked me to write a poem for him. I didn't mean for it to take this turn. I wanted it to be a more comedy type of poem but as any decent author (haha) knows, you don't always control your words when you're letting emotions stay bottled up inside. So this is for my friend. He's pretty awesome by the way.
