Shell

Holding on with both hands,

to proud to let it go
You cry  at night behind closed doors,
to proud to let it show.

Despite the tears and broken dreams,
you smile cuz your strong
Plus letting go and giving up,
means admitting that your wrong.

Standing there, your head held high,
So beautiful and wise
Inside your head your drowning now,
bombarded by his lies.

The shining stars within your eyes,
have long ago been crushed
Replaced by something emptier,
made of hurt and broken trust

So long Iv seen inside your world,
Iv watched it all come down
With empty hopes and racking tears,
You won't find me around.

It's not that I don't love you,
it's not that I don't care.
If you ever need a helping hand,
you know that I'll be there.

Just open up your eyes,
And try to understand
It's not just you that's hurting here,
It time I took a stand
Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this poem about my sister. Growing up she was my idol, for the past 9 years I have watched her change from a carefree teen to a loving mother. But her one downfall is the love she has for her emotionally abusive husband.
