Blood And Tears

words can hurt
words can heal
no words can speak the pain you feel
just a child
I watched you die
forever haunted by your cry
no mercy
no justice
for this life so bleak
no mercy
no justice
for you could not speak
I watched the life drain out of you
just a child
what could I do?
I watched you bleed
I saw the tears
but humans think naught of your fears
my arms around you
I held you tight
the pain will stop
it will be allright
they pulled you from your mama on that sunny day
laughing at your screams
just as I came out to play
the knife was sharp
but he did not cut deep
they left you to bleed
and us both to weep
a tear streamed down your frightened face
this memory I cannot erase
for a moment I wished I could take your place
I kept my arms around you
until your heart stopped beating
later I felt sick as I watched the monsters eating

Powerful compassion, I have

Powerful compassion, I have similar stories and I agree with you, it is a terrible thing... But from the harshest terror grows the mild and meek with a quiet strength that none can erase. HugSS.

Memories

Some memories seem to be just burned into our souls forever. This event seems like a fiery memory burned into the soul. I enjoyed reading this even though it was sad. I guess I just like sad writing. Thank you.

Thanks for reading these

Thanks for reading these poems. This one, Blood and tears was inspired by the day my uncle along with his drugged up and drunken friends killed a pig infront of me, my sisters and cousins. It traumatized us all. I really did stay with the poor pig until it finally died and it really did cry tears just as we do. I think things like this can have a purpose though if we let them. This event is likely why my sisters and myself have a great deal of compassion for animals. One works for a vet and has saved many animals. Another used to work in a no kill shelter where she worked diligently with dogs that were considered unadoptable and managed to find homes for them. As kids we were constantly taking in sick and injured animals and nusing them back to health. I believe compassion for animals makes us better people overall. I mean, look at serial killers...most tortured animals first. btw still have to finish reading all of yours but so far i like everything I've read. :)
