A really long day

This is the story about two friends. To be very specific, this is a story about two cricket friends, Bobby and Dex. Bobby was light green, somewhat like his personality. He is known for being the charismatic, kind and extroverted cricket from The Everglades, Florida. In the other hand, Dex is the smart and snarky but introverted dark green cricket from the Okefenokee Swamp. You could say that Dex has a little trouble meeting people, it was no walk in the park for him when he moved from his swamp to The Everglades. Bobby was the first friend Dex made when he moved to The Everglades, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. They may be different in personality but opposites attract.

It was a warm summer day when Bobby and Dex decided to go for a stroll around the swamp. It was a special day for Bobby and a blue one for Dex. Bobby was feeling very excited because it was his birthday, and he thought Dex was planning a surprise party for him because he had been acting really secretive. Little did Bobby know, Dex was not planning a birthday party for Bobby and yes, he was secretive but only because he got news that his best friend back home had died in a car accident.

Both crickets kept strolling and strolling around the swamp all day. When it was almost sundown Bobby said: “Don’t you remember what today is?”.

“A really long day” said Dex with a sigh.

Bobby got furious and started jogging away. Dex was confused and first but then decided to call his friend the next morning, which was the first thing Dex did waking up but Bobby didn’t answer his call. The next day Dex saw Bobby with Clyde having lunch at the local dinner and he waved hello from afar only to be seen and ignored by Bobby, again. Dex was starting to get mad. He couldn’t believe his best friend was giving him the cold shoulder when he was grieving and in need of a friend. The next day Dex went to Bobby’s house and demanded some explanations. The truth was that Dex was too sad with the death of his friend that he forgot about Bobby’s birthday. Bobby felt bad about his attitude towards Dex, and Dex felt bad about forgetting Bobby’s birthday, and both agreed that it was just a communications misunderstanding.

Moral of a fable: Most psychological wars are unleashed more because of what is not said than of what is said.
