The Beast And I

Folder:
Dark Poetry

Somewhere along the coast, far away and to the east.

I sit on a blanket in the sand, smiling with the beast.

We toast to the waves and the starry night, and to the cat who is out again tonight.

Like an animal tamed, he caresses my face.

Like a fool in love, I fall from grace.

We share a drink from blessed cups, remembering the downs and the ups.

We speak of hope, forgiveness, and regret;

all the things we should never forget.

The ocean breeze is cool and calm--gently swaying the fronds of the palms.

Once or twice the headlights pass;

the road is dead with things of the past.

The street lights are dimmed, shadow casting, and we kiss in the pale glow--basking.

Everything feels almost right, with one last toast.

We agree, the beast and I, we shall make the most--of this forbidden love.
