Inkstained Truths

 midnight's full moon paints desert plains eerily luminous
stirring red dust calm as a hush finally claims my day
questions linger inside the events of all that has happened
long and endless are restless hours lost in thought
even when those thoughts are about you

as twilight rushes my senses
leaving me feeling more awake than I have in a very long time
I realize I am in that place where dreams teeter
on the precipice of indifference
and my minds logic succumbs…to brittle time
fragments of a reality littered with broken pieces of delusion

and as I stand here where many have stood before me
bartering and bargaining for one more day
of not knowing all the absolutes
I wonder how much those
who have previously took this stance have sacrificed
in the name of “one last whisper of love”

everything valid in my heart still writes my intentions
but my mind has its own pen, its own agenda
and my body obediently dangles from its inkstained strings
being forced forward down life’s path
away from those moments where we were “us”

day arrives within a welcomed silence and a vigil of understanding
where solace is finally found in the honesty of simple truths
and there where ashes turn to ashes and dust to dust
all that is yet to come tantalizes my senses with such a wanting
it leaves my soul famished, starving even

the yearning to move on, to leave this everyday reality
and leap feet first into the next drives my curiosity to extremes
not that I will ever learn how to manipulate time
or escape this place I now dwell
but the dream is so sweet and the quest is undeniably worthy
what else can I do but what I need to do
and that's keep moving forward
