The leaves of gold
Have loosed their hold
And fluttered gaily down.
The steady beat
Of tramping feet
Has scuffed them through the town.
The Autumn breeze
Blowing through the trees
Has tossed them in the air,
Then ceased to play
And dropped away
To leave them scattered there.
From east to west
The trees undressed
Stand naked to the sky.
The first sharp chill
Sweeps off the hill
To prove that Winter's nigh.
The nomad birds
Have flocked in herds,
Fly on to warmer weather,
High in the sky
Go gliding by,
Migrants all together.

I couldn't pass up reading this poem. I've had am image and idea for writing my own autumn poem in my head all day. Right before I noticed this one I wrote it. So, when I see your title I knew I had to engage in reading it. I'm glad I did. You captured the beauty of nature wonderfully. I felt as though I was right there standing in awe. I shouldn't be surprised after reading your other poems, but I always find myself amazed. By the way, the new poem I wrote about autumn is called, "Into Winter's Embrace." You can check it out if you're interested and if not it's fine. Either way I'm happy because I read this marvelous poem.

Great rhyme and meter and imagery. Thanks for sharing!
Now this is so beautiful and vivid! And it is about my favorite time of the year! Just perfect!
Hi Eunice
This is a beautiful little poem, with a nice beat . I can see it and can experience the end of Autumn again, here in the midst of a snowy cold winter.
Thank you. Nice work.

You paint beautiful images in words and the rhyme flows so naturally that I couldn’t help but enjoy reading.

A great piece!
Thanks for visiting my site. I love reading other people's perspective on the same subject. Autumn for example. :)
I really like how your words flow so smoothly. I knew right where to pause and was able to go on without having to go back and read parts again - which I often have to do when reading new poetry.
Wonderfully written!!
