WHY THE DOVE’S CALL IS BRIEF
Peace is such an illusive thing; the morning dove’s call is brief
Because it comes out of eternity on a slender branch of ash. You
And I had a few moments of peace reaching for each other in silence.
The moment the dove caught a glimpse of our face in that silence,
It wanted to stay knowing that the quiet was the end of strife. In
those depths, sea rooted oysters can produce pearls in that silence.
We followed effervescent bubbles to the bottom of the sea seeking
To root ourselves in the depth of peace; the bubbles were but
Thoughts of separation from each other dissolving into quiescence
As all swimmers diving into the pool floor, we turned and looked up
Toward the sky where the sunlight kills the bulls in the water. Finally,
In the depths of our peace we knew of no tempest raging above us.
We never knew we could hear the call of the morning dove there for
There we saw no slender ash branch; in our ineffable peace we entered
Eternity where the ash branch was part of the tree of celestial peace.
Whatever our improvidence was that kept us from peace, let us not
Ruminate over it but accept only silence as an answer to all dichotomies
It is our thinking that slices the silence of our journey to unbroken eternity.
