ALONE
Let the crowd exist,
isolation be the rule.
Alone,
Walled in by flesh
seeking flesh, hoping
for a kindred soul.
Aliens in the same
cul de sac; foreigners
among kith and kin,
Hearing everything
you say is understanding
nothing.
And if propinquity was
the answer, we would all
be soul mates in a fish bowl.
Looking for an “I thou”
relationship but accepting
an “I it”; relegated to an object.
“That George” or “That Jane”
as if exclusively bodies tracked
by a GPS.
Alone, drinking, ruminating
in the doldrums hoping from
freedom in an insular life.

With all that is going on

With all that is going on around us does make this aloneness quite attractive and quite inevitable. 'Social distance' itself connotes a a segregating of self from other and others from self. Thanks for sharing.
