Time

O’ hear the clock that chimes ‘pon distant wall,

and ticks monotonous hours, countless years.

It changes nil, ‘tween morn and evening’s fall,

for endless time endures and perseveres.

It tolls each day a soul e’er draws a breath,

and marks who lived and left from days before.

‘Twill herald those to be, from birth to death,

then strike for eons, hence and evermore.

From universes born in thund’rous flash,

to mortal’s end, from God’s vindictive thrust,

temporal man once formed from stellar ash,

returns where he began, mere cosmic dust.

So tick away, old clock ’pon distant wall,

then toll scant time to fates impending call.
