‘Twas a year ago when freedom reeled,
gripped firm in Satan’s clutch,
and innocence paused near the brink,
scarred deep by evil’s touch.
A year ago when mankind wept,
in horrid disbelief,
and cursed those soulless wretched acts,
then knelt in mournful grief.
A year ago when thousands died,
entombed ‘neath steel and stone,
lost souls fore’er cast to the wind,
their scattered ashes blown.
A year ago when terror struck,
and thrust it’s sabers edge,
in vain attempt to quell a voice,
it rallied freedom’s pledge.
A year ago this nation rose,
unsheathed it’s mighty sword,
and swore to ‘venge each heroes name,
each memory ne’er ignored.
We vow to right a horrid wrong,
move forth without regret,
and place that day in infamy,
lest ever we forget.

Very nicely done, Kenneth. Well written without going overboard. Thanks for the good read.
