-The Sanitorium

The Sanitorium

I sat waiting in the peacefulness of the garden

the scent of roses  and fresh grass in the air

The gentle sounds of insects in the bushes

and murmurings of patrons strolling the grounds.

Yet, in the warmth of a late spring day snow was falling,

snowflakes drifting against the wall in the distance.

Sunlight catching each 'flake' as it journeyed downward.

A journey that mysteriously began at the third floor.

Curiosity capturing me, I approached, wondering,

Why the snow fluries here, now?

With each closing step, the mystery changed.

Not snow, but little pieces of paper.

Somewhere above, behind cold, barred windows

a  lonely heart lost in love's insanity.

Sending a message repeatedly to a love long gone.

Little pieces of paper, each inscribed....

I LOVE YOU

Author's Notes/Comments:

Teddy told me this story, the inspiration for this poem---
......there was a corner of one of the many big buildings that always had a layer of "snow" around it.  The "snowflakes" were little pieces of paper, tossed out of a window on the third floor.  Each one had written on it:  "I LOVE YOU".   That's all.

".......love's insanity........." That's a good line. Did such insanity come before or after the love??
Good, & very good, as usual. Now it is MY turn to catch up on the "10s". CUL, soon.

"Poe" I'm not, nor "Rich" am I,
but I'll be famous, b'ye and b'ye !

A long time ago (maybe in the late 70s) there was a commercial--public service announcement I guess, called "Whoever Finds This, I Love You". An old ragged man is slowly walking along the sidewalk and finds a note. As the clip progresses, it's from a little girl who is left alone a lot in the big house behind the fence and they become fast friends. The first time I saw it I cried and after that I couldn't watch it anymore. I guess I have enough sad in my life already, but this sure was special, Kim.
