-It's Over

It's Over

It came from out of nowhere

a simple question posed.

Tears welled up in my eyes

old emotions re exposed.

From my place in hiding

these tears he could not see.

How such a simple question

could touch me so deeply.

In these past few years

I have finally begun to accept,

the awful fact of life

I hoped wasn't happening yet.

At 44 I reached that age

and knew it must be true.

There'd be no more baby girls in pink

or boys in baby blue.

Mothers at church with babies

was more than I could bear.

Even pregnant women on tv

left me in despair.

So its been settled in my mind

those conceiving days are over.

I've reach a new stage in my life,

new purpose to discover.

So what was my undoing?

The question he wanted to know?

'Can you still have kids?' he asked.

'No, I don't think so.'

Kim:

We used to go through this emotion too ... at least my wife did ... and maybe still does. As a male, I cannot truly relate, but now that I've read your poem, I am a little closer to understanding, and empathise.

I just wanted to read this again. It's so beautiful and touches me so deeply. Only a mother could feel the pain it brings back to mind.

I knew we were sisters at heart! I cried reading this. Just sat here and boo-hooed. I love babies and wanted to share that joy again. I know this feeling of heartache and break and you have expressed it so eloquently that it fairly took my breath. Kim, this is absolutely beautiful. Can you tell the kids have left? lol God bless you my friend.
