Brothers at Play

Folder:
Fun Poems

There once were two young brothers

Named Bartholomew and Bart.

They were very different

And they spent their days apart.

Bartholomew played the violin,

A virtuoso true.

The music poured out of his soul

And bathed his listeners like a dew.

But Bart, well he played basketball,

Tallest guy you ever met.

He gave a hunnerd an’ ten percent,

Just plopped the ball right in the net.

Bartholomew went off

To a school of music where

He was taught to play more beautifully,

To play with poise and flair.

But Bart, well he dropped outa school,

Book learnin’ weren’t his style.

He got drafted by the NBA

‘Cuz his legs were long as the Nile.

In a symphony orchestra

Bartholomew now plays.

The gentry dress up in their best

To watch on concert days.

People cram into the stands

To see Bart throw around the ball.

They pig out on beer and popcorn,

Booing down all the ref’s calls.

Bartholomew must work two jobs

To feed himself each day.

He just simply can’t get by

On a violinist’s pay.

But Bart, well he makes millions,

Blows it all on booze and cars.

He has a great big mansion,

But spends all his time in bars.

Bartholomew was gifted,

And he heeded music’s call.

His playing was his passion.

Bart was really, really tall.
