No matter how pervasive hate appears to be across the globe today…
even as it threatens to tear our world apart…
I shall do my best not to let it tarnish my soul…
or blacken the walls of my heart.
I don’t believe it’s possible for love and hate
to occupy the same time and space in the world I’m trying to create.
So I shall look for love wherever I can…
Yes, it is love I choose to celebrate.
I will look for people holding hands
for anyone comforting another who cries….
I will look at two people embracing…and find the love behind their eyes.
I’ll watch people dancing and singing together
I’ll watch friends or lovers kiss
I’ll look for two old friends coming together and listen as they reminisce.
I’ll find someone helping a stranger
see on a face how candies or flowers impress
I’ll watch a silent exchange of tenderness…a gentle touch…a sweet caress.
I’ll watch a husband gently place his ear on his wife’s stomach
and suddenly become aware
he’s going to be a father…that there’s a life taking shape in there.
I will find couples watching a sunrise
eating a romantic dinner for two…
people hugging…watching a sunset…I’ll listen for the words ‘I Love You’
When it think of all the people who hate…it’s Joni’s words and Judy’s voice I shall recall…which leads me to wonder if, in their hearts, the haters really know love at all.
Because when you seek out moments of love…you quickly become aware
you don’t have to search very far…for love is everywhere.
And the more love occupies the space in every moment we create
If my hypothesis is correct…the less time we have to hate.
