A soccer team and their coach in Thailand trapped inside a cave
trying to survive the monsoons…and the rising of the waves…
When the news was first reported…the world was mesmerized.
We struggled with our thoughts…we were sad…we agonized.
Then we heard they were alive…allaying our fears and doubts
and now the world is watching as they try to get them out…
As we watch rescuers try to save them…as we watch their many dives
it seems to me what matters most right now is that we get them out alive…
It doesn’t matter if the people trapped are tall or fat or thin…
It doesn’t matter what language they speak…or the color of their skin.
It doesn’t matter if their rescuers are tall or fat or thin…
It doesn’t matter what language they speak…or the color of their skin.
It doesn’t matter their religion…it doesn’t matter if they pray
It doesn’t matter if they are straight or bi or trans or queer or gay…
In times like this, with lives on the line, all that divides us seems to shatter
and helping those in trouble…in need…is the only thing that matters.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if, when this is over,
we don’t go back to the way it was before…
and we realize those things we thought that mattered….
those things that tend to divide us…
do not matter anymore?
