A tall man unshaven unkempt
Mismatched clothes worn without regard for fashion, style or cut
Colours drab grays and browns
Moves slow deliberate against an unseen soft and pliant inertia
He orders coffee in a too loud voice tinged with care and childhood
Speech mirrored in its stretched words drawn out with deliberation and innocence
Overly formal
TWO MILKS AND FOUR SUGARS PLEASE
Sitting
Winter clothes his costume armor
by the door
He sips and rocks slowly nodding
Hand near the handicap button
To open for the unsuspecting patron
He smiles a guiless smile eyes glistening his face a warmth of caring with a hope of recognition and silent thanks.
Yet none throughout the afternoon sees his earnestness or understands his gallant officiating
Save one… his friend
