Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia
That's the way it's meant to be, a
constipated poet strains
to squeeze a rhythm from his brains.

Onomatopoeia
and a frothy pint of beer
is a certain cure for sprains,
hangnail, gout and teething pains.

Onomatopoeia
Island East of Eritrea?
Nowhere near the shipping lanes.
Useless country - who complains?

Onomatopoeia
blossoms seven times a year.
Water well with monsoon rains
to erase the cow-dung stains.

Onomatopoeia
was the madness of King Lear.
Shakespeare's agued poet reigns
o'er psychotic dukes and thanes.

"Onomato poeia"
cooed a Geisha in my ear
as she tied me up in chains
to the sound of sweet refrains.

"O noma to poeia"
cry the Redskins over here
as they ride across the plains
slaughtering the wagon-trains.

Lest your fascination wanes,
the dictionary now explains
in words succinct and crystal-clear.
Oh, no matter.

Poeia.
