Let's pretend what I said, I meant

And that I didn't lie with the intent

Of making you feel like you have won

When we both know that the battle just begun

Let's lie to each other and

Let's fake smiles to one another and

Let's say it doesn't matter when

We both know that it does, and

Let's cry a few more tears, not of sadness

Let's move on a few more years, not of closeness

Let's forget that best friends means Best Friends

And that laughter is made of happiness

We can make due with what we have

And try to learn to fake goodbyes

When we need each other again

We can pretend we tried and tried before we cried

I'll sow my wide eyes shut

You can start to open yours up

That when everything seems not like it seems

That is when everything means just everything

Like calling in the hopes to hear a voice on the other end

Like looking so far behind you that you don't see at all ahead

And my phone, it stops ringing when it knows I've shut it off

But my ears, they keep on ringing and it will never ever stop

It's like a gunshot that grazed my face

Enough to create this cold blood that I taste

And my heart starts beating slower

As to keep from shattering to the floor

Yea, it knows that you don't love me

It doesn't care for reasons I'm unaware

And it knows that deep inside you

Is a spark that kept you warm, the moment that you blew...

...The other sparks (are) out the moment you failed to be alive

When breathing gets too hard to bare

The cuts so deep because life's not fair

I know it, and I feel it too

In ways that may never make sense to you

Much like the way I never once gave up

I hurt so much, but for you I stuck

Just know this is not the end

And I cannot play pretend

That what you said didn't tear me apart

Because it did, and it slowed my heart

But tomorrow is a new day full of something new

A chance for summer's warm air to breathe life back into you

And when next year comes around so quick

I won't forget that your teardrops make stairs slick

You won't believe me, but I'll be there

To wipe and dry every single stair

I'll give you space if thats what you need

So long as you open your eyes wide at the end

I promise not to beg and plead

But there's a shattered heart to mend

Take a few deep breaths and try to smile for me now

There's still a brighter future

And I know you still care

Tomorrow I'll still be here
