If emotions sit too long without being used, they fester.
Just like if you let meat sit without being cooked, it festers.
They both rot and rank, developing a putrid unbearable smell.
For both, it doesn't matter if they are good quality or bad,
Both kinds fester just the same.
The process is faster and more obvious
With the cheap meats and negative emotions.
First, the barely decent color dulls,
Then the mostly bland flavor unknowingly dissipates,
And before you know it, the slimy film begins to form;
Making the meat (or emotion) difficult to grasp
And intolerable to be around.
A person who lets their bad emotions fester,
Is always stinking up the room;
Making it unpleasant and foul.
The act of festering the good stuff will always take a little longer,
But it is always that much more disappointing.
The brightly colored and aromatic flesh slowly fades,
But you keep hanging on to it, thinking it’s still good enough.
But almost without warning, it’s too late.
There sits something once so good,
Something you were so looking forward to enjoying,
And now it’s useless
In fact it’s less than useless:
The rotting carcass and its gnarly stink,
Sits burdensome and covered with maggots.
And that’s how it can feel when emotions go to waste,
When they aren’t being used.
You feel the creepy crawly worms all over you,
Unable to shake them off because they know,
It’s too late, they might as well feed.
It’s unsettling.
Like meat, emotions can fester and go bad when not used.
And like meat, it stinks of rank and leaves you so queasy,
You might as well accept the fact they you’re going to be sick from it,
And next time think twice about letting it sit all too long.
Very true!
I Like the way you brought this to the fore with your poem, I really do agree that unused emotions to fester and the ones that are held down will fight ferociously for life at their last breath! A great read thanks! :)
