Homage to Love Poems

There are so many different ways to proclaim it;

Yet the written word seems to be the most affectionate.

Why do we write down the way we feel in this way?

We profess our feelings so openly;

We talk about flowers and candy hearts,

A little boy in a diaper with a weapon,

The beauty of her, the strength of him,

The world through a rose-colored glass.

Romeo this and Juliet that and Blah Blah Blah…

It’s all so corny if you really look at it.

When first written it seems so profound, so deep,

Then three months later it seems so silly, makes us laugh.

I do confess that I am guilty of the above;

In truth it is a side effect, being so honestly deep,

It is a side effect of being in love;

Everything seems so powerful, even a single rose.

An addiction even, perhaps we should form a group,

But no matter, I say what I say, and I won’t back down.

So now I profess in the most profound way,

That I, a cheesy love poem addict, am in love.

I profess the world is like a rose, full of chocolate hearts,

Cupid has got me good; he says I’m beautiful,

He is so strong for me, everything is lovely.

I am in love, and I say it proudly.
