I want to climb the fence and walk barefoot through your soft manicured grass
Uninhibited, the earth can tell me who I am

For my yard is dry, rough with weeds and roots
and it knows me too well

But on your side, the grass looks green and young
On my side the grass is matured and brittle

But when I climb the fence I realize you need too much attention
You need too much sun and rain and love

On my side the roots grow deep and know my name
So I choose to remain on my side

Even though it may not look as tempting
it knows my name.

good choices

are always harder to make when the grass looks so much greener on the other side... great use of metaphor,
you keep working on your side of the fence, that is where your inspiration comes from, if you left the space in your mind you might just lose your muse... like Irma Bombeck said, "The grass is always greener over the septic tank"....
