The Glass Key

Just one, that's all
I wish to save one soul
before they fall
that's my life goal

let me save you from pain
let me save you from life
you have so much to gain
there's no need for the knife

bestow your hurt upon me
let me suffer for you
let me set you free
there's little you have to do

There's so much I have to do
and your pain will set me free
so let me suffer for you
bestow your hurt upon me

I want to put down this knife
I have so much to gain
Save me from my life
save me from my pain

that's my life goal
before I am to fall
through you I will save my soul
just you, that's all

This was one of those 'five minute' poems, so if it's not up to my usual standards.... then sue me. Jerry, this poem is exceptional, compassionate, moving. I don't understand why you would think that it wouldn't be "up to [your] usual standards". In my opinion, it surpasses them.
