Hosanna, 2: Scribal Comprehension

Centurion, your executioners
are not nearly as powerful as Him.
He is not held upon that cross by nails.
He was not put there by the High Priest's whim.
That crown of thorns and ghastly, brutal, scourging
did not occur because of local urging.
No evil deed attempted on Him can
triumph against the Godhood in that man.
Not ours; not Judas'; and not Pilate's plan
could have forced this.  No worldly choice prevails
upon Him, and no second thought deters
Him; ever.  Storms have stilled because he said
to; from before Him, Satan's demons fled;
loaves multiplied at His command and fed
nine thousand; several times He raised the dead.
For something more than ignominius death,
He dies.  For more than deep, pierced wounds, He bled.
The power of Sin, that digs all graves, is shaken.
Now all of us have less, and more, to dread.
But be assured:  what we watched---His last breath---
was given, by His own choice, and not taken.
