At Great Fear Before Christ's Cross On Calvary

Did you hear that?  He cried out, "It is finished,"
and now his body sinks down, limp and dead.
And Sin, the Mighty, is not just diminished;
and is belittled, and vanquished, instead.
I never thought that he would die for them;
even for those fools who had dared condemn
him.  Judas was supposed to thwart that plant,
and failed.  (You cannot count upon a man
to follow through, and do a small task right.)
Look now:  the afternoon sky fills with light.
His friends' fears were not darker than my fears.
And their tears are not hotter than my tears.
And God has answered, now, my deepest dread
since I first asked the question, "Hath God said?"

Starward

Author's Notes/Comments:

After Genesis 3 and the Crucifixion accounts of the Apostles Saints Matthew and John, and the Evangelists Saints Mark and Luke.  I have believed, for some time, that the Devil was present at the Crucifixion of Christ; not to preside over or  contribute to the process, but in aghast fear of the imminent defeat of evil that it accomplished.
