At Lady Certainly's Stockings: Severity
The fashion magazines slyly impose
a 'haute couture' that treats, as worst of scandals,
her style: with that long dress, the kind of hose
that have the reinforcements at the toes,
revealed by slender-strapped, open-toe sandals.
But, lest too many mavens scowl and scoff,
she shyly smiles and, teasing, slips them off:
revealing, once again, my sole, sweet Muse,
casual and comfortable without her shoes,
contemptuous of fashion's high abuse.
