Most of the people you will meet are fools
in whom, without restraint, the ego rules.
They think that shrill assertion, barked command,
or muttered curse proves just how high they stand.
Alas, how low: and they will learn it well
when they have been enrolled in enlarged hell.
Their time here---much less spent with you---is brief.
Their ranted raving need not cause you grief.
Rather, beyond them, let your eyes project
benignant gaze upon the few elect.
These are whom you serve: few and far between
who, graciously, rise up---over---the mean;
yet shy and selfless, all too little seen.
These you preserve, empower, and protect.
This is well written. I enjoyed reading it.
