The Life and Death of the Christmas Tree

Walking through my yard

What do my wandering eyes see?

My next door neighbors'

Christmas tree

What a sad sight

Slumped over on its' side

In a pile of burnable trash

What a dreadful way to die

How horrible it must be

For the beloved Christmas tree

To be chopped down

Seperated from its roots

Forever forgotten

Like a Santa with no boots

Sent to a store

For purchasing

Then bagged and tied up

Shouldn't this be considered a crime?

Fastened to the roof

No escape, running out of time

Dragged through the door

Set up in a house

Where screws are inserted

Into it's spine

Everyone adorns it

With Christmas tree lights

Ornaments and such

Some boxes are left beneath

With pretty bows

Sometimes maybe

Little toes are pricked

Then left to sit there

For weeks with no care

If they remember to water

Seems the pain just gets harder

The days they grow longer

Then finally carols are sung

As presents are opened

One by one

And just as suffocation

Takes it's toll

The madness is over

It's time to go

Dragged by its trunk

Out to the dump

With only needles left behind

Finally free

This was the life and death of

The Christmas Tree
