All the Pretty Roses

Folder:
1. Blameless Ennui

Once upon a time

In a modern day scene

There lived an unwed mother

Who was no more than eighteen

She wasn’t pregnant by choice

The poor rose wasn’t planned

All the hard pressure

She couldn’t stand

Then a man came

And offered a plan

She jumped at the help

And the end slowly began

First he acted as a dad

But that didn’t last

It was a phase

That passed

A lil rose

With his mom

Alone and so afraid

Then they met Mr.Tom

They had another rose

But he beat her often

Until today no one knows

Birth certificate is blank

Father’s name not given

The pain he gave her

Never was forgiven

Yet she went back

And he took her in

She was so vulnerable

And let the abuse begin

They had another rose

One younger brother

Three little roses

And their mother

One more rose

With mister Tom

Then they divorced

And things were calm

But I’m not finished

This isn’t over yet

More pain comes

A life to offset

The little sister

Her fragile heart

The poor little rose

And she had to depart

Everyone felt sorry

But no one knew

How mom felt

Her view

She cried

Alone again

The life shredded

A future was slain

Then she met

Another man

That’s how

They began

The rose's death

Brought on the pain

The tears kept falling

Coming like the rain

They brought roses

Showing sympathy

She saw them

Their empathy

But roses all die

Like the last rose

She knew all this

No on else knows

She hated roses

He brought candy

A tradition now

Quite handy

Her life

Was in layers

The same situations

Just different players

Like the rose petals

Mostly the same

Looking alike

In love’s game

Now she is fine

Her roses have all grown

One day they'll all have

Lil roses of their own

The journey’s over

Her story closes

She will remember

All the pretty roses

Author's Notes/Comments:

My mother's life. Like it? She is so afraid I will make the same mistake she did and screw up my life. That's why I am in this cage.

Have you shown this one to your mother? I'm sure she would agree, it's from her heart to your hand...

James Daniel Darr's picture

Often parents just what better for the children then they had in life. No one can fault them for that. But in memory of them we can lead out lives the best we can and trust that all will come out in the end
